Giving thanks to the United States

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.
- Abraham Lincoln

I just watched the movie "Lincoln" with my family last night, on the eve of America's celebration of Thanksgiving. The movie was about an extraordinary man who took extraordinary measures to ensure the Union's survival...sometimes blurring the line between what was constitutional (or not) in order to advance his belief that it was America's destiny to be a land for all people to be free.

"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty . . is finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American People."
- George Washington

The Founding Fathers established these United States in what became known as as the ultimate "Grand Experiment". I am so thankful that we had the wisdom and guidance of these flawed but extremely thoughtful men.  230+ years later, it still works.  Not always with the result that I want, but, like baseball, every man gets his chance.
